My main area of study is Second Language Aquisition, with a special interest in using Graphic Novels to promote language aquisition. I am currently working on a piece of creative non-fiction, and short story that revolves around The Great Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami, which occurred on 3/11/11. I speak several languages, including Japanese, which I was able to use when I studied abroad in Shizuoka-Shi, Japan. I want to create a series of books based on international folktales, that can be used for language instruction and with struggling/reluctant readers. I’ve also recently noticed that there isn’t a lot of Young Adult LGBTQ(Q) material that results in a positive conclusion, and I’m interested in changing that. I’ve created several literature units dealing with the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, and am interested in expanding on this and other issues of social justice.

    • ‘That’s such an awesome thing to say, you brightened my day! It’s my first father’s day w/o my dad & I’ve been a little down :)i

    • It’s nice to have ‘virtually’ have met you, as well ;)! I know you will have a lot of success with this piece.

  2. Hi Black Hippie Chick,

Thanks for having me on your blog last month.

Please drop in this afternoon (Tues. Dec. 18th) to
the virtual release party for St. Nick’s Favor, the sequel to Chasing
    the Trickster.

The party will be held from 1-5 pm EST. There will be novel and
short story giveaways. Also holiday recipes and music (if I can
figure out how to do that with Facebook). And there
will be a book trailer for St. Nick’s Favor as well.

St. Nicholas asks Nina Weaver to be his emissary. Her mission is to
take a one-way trip five years into her past to save the lives of
thousands of children. Doing this will result in her losing the life
she has built in New York City, including her relationship with
Pascal Guzman. Nina faces down corporate greed, attempts on her life
and the terrors of the Trickster God to keep her promise.

Even if you can’t attend the party, please drop by to “like” the page.

    Hope to see you there,

    April Grey
